Francia: ayuda para gente en situación de calle y sus perros | France: help for those in need and their dogs

 English translation below

How did I meet them?

One post led me to another and that’s how I met them via Instagram. His work caught my attention and that is why I determined to know his work in depth. They are the French association “Association Gamelles Pleines”.

Their work

Their main work takes place on public roads. During their tours they go out to meet people in the street with their dogs.

The problem they face and work to change is the difficulty that these people have to spend the night – together with their dogs since logically they do not want to be separated from them – in the public shelters that the state provides either for days of extreme cold, illness. or simply to spend a night in shelter, bathe and eat a good plate of food.
They work head-to-head with the social workers in charge of the shelters so that little by little a change of mentality begins to take place.

The reality is that these shelters are extremely necessary for homeless people and their dogs, since there they can sleep peacefully, bathe, receive psychological care, among others.

The acceptance of dogs, in addition to improving the lives of homeless people, directly impacts the quality of life of dogs: they receive food, basic care (such as pipettes and antiparasitics), veterinary attention if they need it, etc.

Access to these shelters and the constancy of the people who visit them, allows the Organization to monitor their animals, giving much importance to preventive veterinary care (vaccines, identification of chronic diseases, etc.), sterilizations (they try to make them Dog owners understand the importance of this action and decide it as a beneficial action for the animal) and emergency care.

Another important point that I found wonderful is that the volunteers in turn function as transit homes when the dog owner must enter (either in a planned way or in an emergency). At this point the key is the relationship and the bond that is established between the volunteers and these people who entrust their beloved 4-legged companion to a volunteer.

The Association places a lot of emphasis on the dignity of people living on the streets, that is, they are the ones who feed their dogs, decide if they want to sterilize them, not reproduce them, not have dangerous animals, always keep them with a collar, leash and muzzle ( if required and participate financially as far as possible in the care of your dog.

The Association also carries out actions in primary and secondary schools to educate in awareness and empathy. Since her work is based on empathy, on giving support to people living on the streets with dogs, but also on giving them moral support, understanding that loneliness, illness and being on the street is a very reality. lasts for anyone.

Their story

The organization came from the hand of Rosaly – a beautiful chocolate labrador – and Yohann. Rosaly fell ill with cancer and the vets could do nothing to save her. However, her love for her inspired Yohann to start this association and since 2008 they have not stopped growing and helping, always remembering the much loved Rosaly.
Gamespelle in French means “full plates”, and it bears this name because it was started as a project to feed the dogs that lived with the homeless. Today they encompass much more than just food.
They are present in 8 regions of France (Quimper, Rennes, Caen, Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Strasbourg and Montpellier) and have approx 100 volunteers.

They are independent – that is, the State supports them but as it supports any other organization in the country – but when making decisions or in relation to financial matters, they get their own funds and finance themselves.

If you are in France and want to join, volunteers are always welcome.
If you want to know more about them, their website is https://www.gamellespleines.fr and their Instagram

We are not very close but I can’t wait to get to know them!
