Monterosso al Mare y Portofino con Frida | Monterosso al Mare and Portofino with Frida

English translation below

Portofino and Monterosso al Mare 🇮🇹 are two cities located in the Liguria Italian region.

It can be reached by train, plane, but with medium / large dog, only by car. They only accept dogs that enter a carrier like the one on airplanes. We did Portofino -> Monterosso al Mare -> Pisa. Each place is 1 hour 30 min, approx. each other and the roads are beautiful.

To stay I advise you not to do it in the cities because they are usually expensive, but they move a bit away to another less touristy city (we stay in La Spezia) they find better prices.

➕The most: how beautiful the beaches are, being there transports you. The sea is crystal clear, the colorful houses tucked into the rocks, you feel like you’re in an Italian movie from the 50s. The whole area is like that, and surely there are less touristy places just as picturesque.

➖The least: the issue of beaches in Europe with dogs is a disaster, practically in all countries dogs are prohibited and few have options for dog beaches. Monterosso and Portofino are no exception. In both it is strictly forbidden to enter with dogs. They include fines of up to 50 EUR. What makes me sadder is that the beaches are super dirty, full of bottles, food packages, plastic … but no dogs cannot enter #incoherence

With Frida we went to the beach because we went in low season and there were hardly any people.

Eating and staying with dogs is simple, all places are dog friendly. The biggest and – I would say almost the only – problem are the beaches.

What to see? The city itself, wandering into the streets, having a drink on a sidewalk, walking and strolling.

On the same trip we continue to Pisa and Florence, but I leave that for another post! 🙂
