Qué aerolíneas son las más pet friendly? | Which are the most pet friendly airlines?

 English translation below

Assuming that we always talk about airlines that accept dogs*, how we experience the flight itself for me has a lot to do with that particular flight: the crew and the rest of the passengers, and not so much with the airline. * The well-known European low-cost RyanAir for example does not accept any other type of dog than assistance/guide dogs, therefore it is already eliminated from the analysis.

In my experience and from all the information I have been collecting, it is not so much the airline but rather that particular flight and the crew that make our experience traveling with our furry family positive!

Does the crew influence our trip?

Yes! Either asking us how our dog is, if we need something, even offering us water to give them. A simple gesture of empathy makes the moment of nerves on board more bearable.

Even many times, if there is availability, they offer you a seat that no one is sitting next to, to travel more comfortably. But he will almost never offer to take the animal out of the bag because it goes against IATA regulations and that does not depend on his “good vibes” but on aeronautical regulations.

Personally, it happened to me that I was lucky enough to travel surrounded by people who love cats and dogs, and they were happy to have them travel with them. And if, because it can happen, we have someone who does not enjoy the company of an animal, the best thing is to talk, take it easy, and ask the crew to try to relocate us or relocate the passenger so that we all travel as well as possible.

I always flew for KLM and Air France -which currently belong to the same group- and I had an outstanding experience. I have been told the same about American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta.

KLM and Lufthansa airlines at their headquarters airports (Amsterdam and Frankfurt respectively) are the only ones that have a special service for dogs/cats in transit, waiting to board another plane or for their family to pick them up. The animal hotel (KLM) or animal lounge (Lufthansa) are spaces specially dedicated to animals in transit where – with prior authorization from their family – specialized personnel take the puppy for a walk, put/change the sanitary stones for the cats, or give them They feed (I insist, all this with the prior authorization of their families).

There are always positive or negative comments, people who will tell you that such an airline is the best and people who will tell you otherwise. It is important to read and inform ourselves as much as we can but not let this affect us and, always prioritizing what we understand is best for our dog or cat and advised by a travel specialist if necessary, prepare ourselves as best as possible for that day: from documentation, elements, kennels, etc. In this way we minimize travel problems.

Excelente!
